18 Week Bumpdate + Feeling Beautiful

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone. – Audrey Hepburn Hard to believe I am almost halfway through my second pregnancy! Ha, I feel so old. The first 15-16 weeks with this little nugget were a little bit of a doozy but I am thankfully feeling much better. This go round has been a little harder on me than the first pregnancy.

    Pregnancy Announcement

One of the best things about having an oversized family is that no matter if its pizza on a Tuesday night, a bonfire on Friday, or Thanksgiving with the crew, any time spent together is always bound to be slightly chaotic but always a good time. The other awesome thing, is when you have any big announcement to make you instantly have a party! We decided to break the news of nugget #2 to my family on Thanksgiving. We were taking family pictures, as we attempt to do every year, and we thought it would be fun to tell everyone during pictures! I had quickly made a sign and the…

    Fishing for Chickens

Yesterday I had the luxury of getting my hair done… in an actual salon… and not leaning over the sink of your hairdresser friend (no offense ladies, you know we love you to the moon and back, but there is something special and luxurious about actually getting to GO to a salon… Even the word salon sounds so much more fancier and forbidden after you have a kid. Kidding, kidding, it’s not THAT bad. Some priorities just shift post-kiddo.

A broken heart and a lesson learned

Yesterday was a "typical" rainy Sunday morning. The groggy goggles were on, the hubby was long gone at work and I was running (slowly yet frantically) around trying to get ready for church and avoid wearing the exact same outfit I had on yesterday. (Dear fashionable IG moms, thanks for the pressure.) Reheated pancakes for breakfast, the dog needing to be let out and fed, I stuck her in her exerciser while I rushed about taking care of last minute things, showering and attempting the long loose curl look on my unloved-for-months hair (overkill)... seemingly out of nowhere all hell broke loose. Oh cue the drama, the crocodile tears, the…

A letter to my daughter on her first birthday

I can’t believe its already been a year, I mean, we just brought her home! Now she is ONE, how could one number feel so huge?! I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what to get my daughter on her first birthday. She is beautifully uncomplicated; so simple (her favorite toys are rocks, mulch, spatulas, TV remotes…) and totally happy. New cute clothes would only be for me, she’d rather be naked! So… I stayed up late writing her a heartfelt, teary-eyed mommy to daughter letter (the first of a lifetime of birthday letters).

Better to be busy than bored.

Better to be busy than bored. Or at least thats what I keep telling myself! On top of our normal chaos, I have been incredibly blessed with several business opportunities recently, of which I am incredibly grateful for. I not only get to stay at home with my daughter, I am able to pursue my career and contribute to the family financially. I have confidence that I am following God’s plan, as when I had our daughter, we made a few big decisions to ensure our priorities were in the correct order according to what God put on our hearts.

    The Determination of a Child

I’m sitting here on my kitchen floor, eating leftovers, watching my (almost) 8 month old daughter explore the new scenery. (I actually have found that the kitchen setup is wonderful, WAY less trouble for her to get into than in the living room, since all she can reach are closed cabinets and the pots, pans, and cups I lay out on the floor.) As I watch her, I can’t help but to think “man, I wish I had her determination!” She is a tough little cookie, and no matter how many times she bonks her head, face plants, or bites the dust, she just keeps on exploring… Pushing beyond her…

The greatest gift you can give to your child… Thoughts on siblings

Some of you may already know this, but I am the second oldest of 8 children. Six boys and two girls. There are 22 years between my oldest sibling and my youngest sibling. I waited 17 years to get a sister (the youngest). No twins, no adoptions, no step-siblings. My older brother and his wife had their first baby 2 weeks before my youngest sister was born (Father of the Bride anyone?!).
