If you follow me on Instagram, you will know I have been busy with renovation projects in our new Florida home! First on my list was getting my three year old daughter’s room completed.
Combining her love of horses and princess gave me a pretty good idea of what I wanted the room to look like. Adding horse elements with a little bit of whimsy while keeping things very girly chic was my goal.
Here is a quick before picture, just so you can appreciate all of my late nights haha….
And the after…
Bed + Bedding
Bed – Since we are a little short on space, I needed to maximize storage and also give us extra sleeping options for guests. This is the Hemnes Daybed from IKEA. I’ll be honest, I didn’t initially love it. I originally wanted a white rod iron bed, but function trumped design. The daybed has three huge drawers AND a pull out trundle for extra sleeping.
Bedding – The bedding, from Beddy’s may in fact be the star of the show here. If you haven’t heard of Beddy’s bedding, it is pure GENIUS. It is zipper bedding! We have the Vintage Blush II set. The whole set fits over the mattress like a fitted sheet. Both sides feature industrial zippers and the inside has a wonderfully soft minky fabric lining.
I LOVE, really, LOVE this bedding. The whole set is extremely well made and the zippers are easy to open and close. This design really is genius since making a daybed can be a challenge – no more climbing over, tucking, pulling and trying to get the bed to look put together, only to have your child climb up and pull it apart again within minutes – IT STAYS PUT! Ok, so not only is making the bed a breeze (literally, within seconds), the zippers are so easy, my three year old can “make her bed”.
The pillows are also from Beddy’s and are the perfect match with the Blush bedding set.
All in the details
The little details really help bring the room all together for me. The princess canopy with twinkle lights and my DIY star dangling stars/garland (I have no idea what you would call them) and the gallery wall above her bed really add to the feel I was going for! Even the little banner I found in the dollar section at Target does so much!
Can you tell I had fun with this room?! Can you also tell that she LOVES it?!
Faux Shiplap Wall
I knew I wanted to do an accent wall in her room, and with our horse country roots and my love for all things Joanna Gaines (duh) shiplap was a no brainer!! I am planning on sharing a post on this DIY shiplap wall – a cost conscious way to get the shiplap look. I did it completely by myself while my husband was traveling, but i’ll share the tips and tricks I learned along the way.
A few notes: I am still on the search for the perfect rug, not pictured are her bin of 3,000 horses, we don’t know the people in the gallery wall frames (haven’t changed them out yet haha!)

Hello, can ypu give the link for the canopy? Were the having stars included or separate? I can find it.
Jess
Hi, I am so sorry I missed your comment. I purchased the canopy on Etsy (the shop is closed now) and then I DIYed the stars. I bought the wooden stars from Hobby Lobby, spray painted them gold, hung them with fishing wire to the inside of the canopy and then added twinkle lights 🙂
