I. LOVE. OLD. WINDOWS. Seriously though, sometimes the most simple of things contain the most character! I wanted to share what I did with a bunch of old windows I bought from a guy at a gas station in the mountains for five bucks (true story). First off, I used one as nursery decor.
Old Window Nursery Decor:
So for this one, I just did a little distressing and added the letters. I decided to leave the glass in, but you can take it out by breaking it and using pliers to pick out the pieces (proceed with that one at your own risk).
Materials:
1. Old wooden window
2. Medium Grit Sandpaper (I actually recommend using an electric sander, it makes the distressing part go 10x faster and 10x less annoying)
3. Wooden Letters (Hobby Lobby)
4. Stain (I used Minwax Dark Walnut – left over from a different project)
5. Ribbon (I used Frayed Burlap Ribbon from Hobby Lobby) **Burlap Rosettes
6. Staple Gun
7. Hot Glue Gun
8. Picture frame holders
The most annoying part of this whole project was cleaning the window. It was crazy dirty. Once you are past that, plug in your sander and sand away! The cool part about distressing, is that you can go at it pretty haphazardly and it still looks good in the end. I would suggest using a medium to coarse grit sandpaper and varying the amount of pressure you put on the window.
Stain or paint your letters and let those dry. For the ribbon, I used Frayed Burlap from HL (they have sales on ribbon/trim frequently). I measured the length of ribbon to loop through the letter and then reach to the back of the window. Staple the ribbon to the back. I made three separate bows using the same ribbon and hot glued them to the front of the ribbon/window. Add your picture frame holders (make sure you purchase ones that can hold the weight of the wood windows), employ your hubby to hang it, and you’re done!
**As with all of my projects, nothing is ever in a state of completion. After I originally posted this, I decided to add a few burlap rosettes I found at Michael’s. I loved the window before, but now I REALLY love it!
Still working on the rest of the nursery, but I am excited to share it when I am done!
