Does My Baby Need Probiotics? What You Need to Know!

This post is sponsored by Evivo but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

In the final weeks before baby girl number three arrives, I am making sure I have all my ducks in a row – which means diapers, wipes, outfits, and anything else I need to support a healthy recovery for myself and a strong foundation for baby girl. Including being prepared to support her gut health and immune system from the get-go!

I first became familiar with Evivo baby probiotics after I had Everly (you can read more about that HERE and HERE!). She had some issues with reflux and watery stools, and after a couple weeks of taking her Evivo probiotics, the issues had resolved. I remember thinking how much I wished I had known about Evivo when I first had Gianna, my oldest. She had digestive issues as a baby and now suffers from eczema.

Evivo Infant Probiotics

How do you know if your baby’s gut is healthy? Do all babies need to take a probiotic? Though gut health certainly isn’t one of the things most parents think about when they first bring home a new baby, it definitely needs to be considered.

More frequent use of antibiotics and the rise of c-section deliveries means that fewer and fewer babies are naturally acquiring the critical strain of bacteria, B. infantis, required for a healthy infant gut. In fact, several courses of antibiotics taken by your mother likely meant she no longer had B. infantis to pass along to you. In turn, you never had it to transfer to your baby, even if you had a vaginal delivery and never used antibiotics yourself.

Evivo Infant Probiotics

Sounds complicated? Don’t worry! Take this 3-Question Baby Gut Check, and in less than 5 minutes, you will have a better idea if your little one’s gut might be missing this strain of healthy bacteria.

– Were you OR your baby born via C-section?
– Were you OR your baby given antibiotics pre-delivery or post-delivery?
– Does your baby have a diaper rash OR 5+ water poops per day?

If you answered yes to any of the above, it is likely that your baby’s gut is missing B. infantis. While only 1 in 3 deliveries in the US are cesarean, it’s important to note that 9 out of 10 babies born in the US have a low functioning gut microbiome due to the lack of good bacteria. With this healthy bacteria missing, your baby could be at a higher risk for colic, allergies, diabetes, eczema, and obesity. Not to mention the fact that healthy immune function begins with a healthy gut – all the more reason to make sure our little one’s gut is in good working order.

So why Evivo over all the other baby probiotics on the market?
It’s been researched for over a decade and has been in numerous clinical trials studying the importance of activated B. infantis EVC001 (the strain of bacteria in Evivo) in the infant gut.

Speaking of strains – strain matters. Evivo is the ONLY baby probiotic clinically proven to be 100% effective in restoring B. infantis to baby’s gut while reducing bad bacteria by 80%. Only Evivo contains B. infantis EVC001, a superior strain of B. infantis* clinically proven to create a protective environment in baby’s gut. This strain protects baby’s gut from bad bacteria and helps safeguard baby’s short and long-term health. (*B. infantis EVC001 out-performs other commercially-available B. infantis strains lacking important functions of the H5 cluster)

The first six months of baby’s life are critical for proper immune and metabolic development. If a baby’s gut is dominated with too much bad bacteria, it can be linked to inflammation and a higher risk of issues like diaper rash, colic, eczema, allergies and autoimmune diseases. Evivo helps balance the good and bad bacteria.

Evivo works beautifully in tandem with breastmilk. With Evivo, more of the nutrients in your breastmilk will stay in your baby rather than be wasted in your baby’s diaper.

Having a healthy gut microbiome will help improve and strengthen baby’s overall immune system development (which is so important right now!!) plus, it will set your baby up for a healthier future. So whether you are getting ready to welcome baby, or already have your sweet little one in your arms, establishing healthy gut bacteria should be on your list of things to do! I highly encourage you to talk to your pediatrician about it, so they can help explain all the benefits of Evivo.

Have your kiddos suffered with skin or digestive issues? Have you used probiotics for your children? I’d love to hear about your experiences!
